Abstract: This article focuses on the intersection of international humanitarian law, the regulation of lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWS), and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the military domain. The article’s main argument is that AI-enabled LAWS may independently learn deceptive tactics, which may culminate in perfidious conduct in an international armed conflict. To combat this, the paper proposes a regulatory framework to address the latent deceptive behaviour of such weapons systems. The article concludes by arguing that the regulatory proposal may be a suitable avenue to prevent potentially unlawful conduct.
