Abstract: The Asia-Pacific region is marked by climate vulnerability and conflict risk, exposing doctrinal and protection limits within International Humanitarian Law (IHL), particularly in relation to Pacific Island insecurity and displacement in South Asia. The study analyses how current legal frameworks struggle to address slow-onset crises, climate-linked violence below the armed-conflict threshold, environmental accountability, and the emerging debate on ecocide. It proposes a prudent and gradual interpretive shift of IHL and places ecocide within the wider context of international criminal law and calls for enhancing regional legal mechanisms for enhanced humanitarian protection.
