We are pleased to announce the publication of the Asia-Pacific Journal of International Humanitarian Law's 2021 edition.
The Asia-Pacific Journal of International Humanitarian Law (APJIHL) is a publication of the Institute of International Legal Studies-University of the Philippines Law Center (UP-IILS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The Journal seeks to produce peer-reviewed scholarly articles, book reviews, and commentary on significant developments and current issues in international humanitarian law and related fields. It has a special focus on the Asia-Pacific region, and is published once a year.
The 2021 Edition includes articles on the following:
- An interview with Judge O-Gon Kwon;
- The use of lethal autonomous weapons systems from an IHL perspective;
- The humanitarian exemption clauses in the context of domestic counterterrorism measures;
- The Red Cross Society of China in the Beiyang Government Period;
- The use of military units and personnel for international rescue and relief operations;
- The similarities and differences of the the ICC and ICJ proceedings on the treatment of the Rohingya population;
- The prospects of victim participation in the prosecution of war crimes in Australia using the ICC framework;
- Reports on the ICRC's engagement with different actors on issues ranging from protection of cultural property in armed conflicts, protection of civilians, and medical personnel and healthcare.
